The Orpington Shotokan Karate Club (OSKC) was established in 1975 at the Walnuts Leisure Centre in Orpington and was the first karate club located within the London borough of Bromley. Founded by Sensei Graham Richardson and Sensei Mick Grout, the club was initially formed on the direction of one of the first karate black belts in the UK, Sensei Ray Fuller and affiliated to Thames Karate. Sensei's Graham and Mick began training at the infamous Martial Street dojo headed by the legendary Sensei Enoeda under the organisation he founded, the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB) which was in turn affiliated to the prestigious Japan Karate Association (JKA). Following Sensei Enoeda's sudden passing in 2003 Sensei Enoeda's chief assistant, Sensei Ohta split away from the KUGB and formed the Japan Karate Association England (JKAE) with whom we remain affiliated. OSKC has trained hundreds of karate students over the years, some who have even gone on to compete at international level and a small handful of dedicated students still remain today. Over the years we have welcomed many guest instructors, of note Sensei Dave Hazard, one of the world's most dynamic and exciting Karateka. We continue to teach traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate to anyone who is enthusiastic and willing to learn!
